 | stockport reunion is only 5 weeks away, where is everybody?I find this time of year very nervous, people are not informing me if they are coming or not.At the moment I have a miserable 36 confirmed. If you want to hang on and send your money at the last minute that is fair enough but please let me know by land line if you are coming.I have already had the hotel on the phone requesting the final number. You have to appreciate the hotel asking as they have to get extra staff in and I find it quite embarrassing that I have to dodge round the question. If you know of anyone who comes to Stockport and is not on the web please inform them of my anxiety at this time of year.I would appreciate it if someone could do Stockport for me this year as I am not well. There must be someone out there who could do it.I have done 24 and 48 hours guards but after 12 years I am due to be relieved. Please let us have some action gentlemen. Many thanks Ron |
 | That all sounds very interesting! Is this all from the Pillinger Family History? I must source a copy. |
 | Hi, my name is Simon Batchelor, and I am the great-great grandson of Major Roland Pillinger, who served in the 10th from 1879 until he retired in 1913 as Major and Quartermaster. I am very interested in any resources that you may be able to refer me to in researching his time in the 10th. We have many photographs from his travels and artefacts (his uniform is in the regimental museum in Winchester and I have his battle sabre), and I would love to find any texts and written accounts from the postings he was involved in. Any help would be gratefully received, many thanks for your time, Simon. SimonBatch@gmail.com. |
 | Thanks for that information David. I just had a quick check of his death certificate and you're right he was in Exeter, he had pneumonia and was in the City Hospital Exeter when he passed away. I am going to send a request to the Museum in Winchester for more records, fingers crossed. The web site mentions Polo which is what my grand father was known for so I do hope they have something for me. It's been a fantastic journey finding out about Joseph, I truely wish I had met him. | Your grandfather was born 28 Sep 1880 in Cockermouth Cumberland. He joined the 10th Hussars 11 Feb 1898 at Preston. His sevice records as you know is on Ancestry.co.uk. I note you have his death in Weston Super Mare, Somerset, but his death in 1969 is registered in Exeter, Devon. So maybe you need to check your records. The info I have given is for other members who do not have access to ancestry.co.uk. There is a book called " The Tenth" it was published in 1999 by Peter Upton and covers the years 1715-1969. I have looked through the book to see if your grandfather is mentioned by name but not found. The book states that the 10th was one of the first regiments to start a Regimental Gazette back in 1907. Maybe the Regimental HQ's in Preston and or Winchester have this book in stock and any Gazettes. I do like the photo's of your grandfather. David |

 | Hi Madeline,
Try this website www.templer.net , I managed to gain the 11th Hussars Journals from 1910-1938 and they are sure to have 10th hussars Journal too. It costs around £30 pounds for a CD , you would need to call Miles Templer to order it as the online ordering system is not working Tel: 0044 (0) 1722 568170. hope this helps. good luck with your research. | My name is Madeline and I live in Australia. My grand father was Joseph William Lowden (3317) and he served with the 10th Royal Hussars from 1898 to 1920. I'm very interested in the regiments history, in particular any information on the regiments Polo history. I would very much appreciate any help in locating information or photos that may be on file of the regiment as it is difficult to research from the other side of the world! I have located his military record, WW1 medal card and that's about it. Any help at all with further information would be wonderful as he served during a fascinating time for the regiment from the Boer War, India, WW1 then Ireland. He was an Officers Groom as well as a horse trainer. My email address is dunster3@bigpond.com if anyone would like to contact me. Madeline |

timwilson12 wrote on May 23, '11, edited on May 23, '11 thanks for your prompt reply, my father in law would love a copy of the photograph regimental swimming team, perhaps you could post it on your site. He was known as "the dodger" He remembers someone called "Bob Ellis" and "peter Collins" and "crusher cole" [the new cross mauler] and remembers the incident of the accidental shooting of the driver. He was in germany at that time.
Whilst not in the best of health he is living in Cornwall and remembers his time as a shiner fondly. We are looking through some old photos as we speak!
Thanks
